My story is intertwined with the legacy of my family, particularly my uncle, Teddy Namainga, the largest rancher in Namwala, and a king in his own right. Uncle Teddy’s life was one of immense wealth—wealth measured not just in the thousands of cattle he owned, but in the respect and admiration he earned from our people. His funeral was a testament to his influence, lasting a week and drawing over 7,000 mourners. 250 cows were slaughtered in his honor, a fitting tribute to a man who was truly a legend.
But this wealth was not fully enjoyed during his lifetime. My uncle, like many other ranchers in our district, was asset-rich but cash-poor. Despite owning thousands of cattle, he, and others like him, lacked access to the financial services that could unlock the true value of their assets.
My grandfather, Kandondo, was a towering figure in both stature and influence. At 6’5”, this “great little one” introduced modern-day commercial ranching to Namwala, transforming it into one of the wealthiest cattle ranching regions in Africa. My grandfather was born in Regina Saskatchewan and migrated to Northern Rhodesia. However, despite the economic success, the lack of accessible credit facilities meant that ranchers were often forced to borrow from money lenders at exorbitant interest rates, trapping them in a cycle of debt bondage.
This stark contrast between wealth and financial struggle led me to ask a crucial question: why was my uncle, with all his wealth, still so financially constrained? The answer was clear—without access to credit, the wealth of our people remained locked, inaccessible when it was most needed.
With my background in Computer Science, Accounting, and Cyber Security, and my experience founding startups in AI, EdTech, FinTech, and Crypto, I knew there had to be a better way. That’s when the idea for NdeipiCoin was born.
I theorized that by tokenizing cattle as NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens), we could unlock liquidity for our farmers by connecting them with international investors. This innovative approach would allow farmers to access the financial resources they needed without falling prey to exploitative lenders.
NdeipiCoin was created as a utility coin, directly linked to the shares of Ndeipi.com, which are listed on the Victoria Falls Stock Exchange and the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.
