My brother and co-founder submitting the bid to the school district in Phoenix.

This week, our journey at Bevcounter hit several pivotal milestones that not only mark our progress but also reinforce our commitment to making a tangible difference in the world. It's a story that begins three months ago, rooted in a vision my brother and I shared, and driven by a moment that changed my perspective forever.

The Genesis of a Vision

It all started with an Instagram post my brother, also my co-founder, stumbled upon. It was about a school district in Phoenix seeking to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into their schools. They were looking for an on-premises software solution that prioritized student privacy and kept control of the data within the school's jurisdiction. Seeing this, I immediately saw an opportunity not just for business but for fulfilling a mission deeply personal to me. With my background working in one of the largest E-Procurement companies in North America, navigating the complex world of enterprise purchasing was something I was intimately familiar with. So, I took the first step and registered as a vendor with the district, marking the beginning of a hopeful journey.

A Bid for Change

Fast forward to three weeks ago, we received an invitation from the procurement manager to bid on the tender. The next two weeks were spent in intense preparation, culminating in the submission of our proposal. This moment was more than just a business opportunity; it was the realization of why Bevcounter was created. Our aim was to develop an AI security platform for schools, inspired by the tragic events at Sandy Hook in 2012. That event, which affected children the same age as my sons, moved me profoundly. It was a turning point that led me to pledge to make schools safer. Although AI was in its nascent stages then, the seed for change had been planted.

From Beverages to Security

Our initial focus at guardian-ai.net was on bars and restaurants, leveraging AI to manage inventory. However, the ultimate goal was always to apply this technology to enhance school security by detecting weapons, drugs, and instances of bullying. The experience gained in the hospitality sector was merely a stepping stone towards achieving this more significant, impactful vision.

Embracing Ubuntu Through Sports

Another milestone we achieved this week was becoming the official sponsor of the Zimbabwe Sables, the national men's rugby team. This opportunity came through a high school friend and newly appointed Head Coach, Pieter Benade. Our involvement goes beyond mere sponsorship; through our PayUbuntu.com P2P crypto payments platform, we've committed to donating 5% of our profits to support sports in the countries we operate. This initiative is a reflection of our Ubuntu philosophy - a belief in the interconnectedness of humanity and the importance of community and mutual care.

Looking Ahead

These milestones are not just achievements; they are a testament to our journey of innovation, commitment, and community. At Bevcounter, we're not driven by profit alone but by a desire to make a meaningful difference in the world. Whether it's enhancing school security or supporting sports development through our Ubuntu philosophy, our journey is about creating a safer, more connected world.

As we look to the future, we remain committed to our mission, inspired by the challenges we've overcome and the opportunities that lie ahead. Our journey continues, fueled by innovation, guided by a vision of community and care, and dedicated to making a lasting impact.
